All about Us

The Smethport Area Piecemakers' Quilt Guild was formed in 2004 when Sandy Nick brought her dream to reality, to start a group where quilters meet to share ideas, learn together, and support our communities.

The guild  meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the Hamlin Library in Smethport, Pa. at 7 pm.  We also meet the 2nd and 4th Monday during the day to sew, also at the library.

Our community work includes quilts of the children and Youth, quilts for Women Veterans from our local area, Quilts 4 Kids with cancer, a yearly donation quilt to the Hamlin Memorial library, and  Christmas donations to the area food banks, the Christian Community Services in Smethport, and the area churches that are gracious to let us use their facility when needed.  Most importantly, finishing a wedding quilt for Sandy's niece after Sandy past away.

We have many activities at our meetings.   Fat Quarter Birthday Club, Secret Pal, Christmas in July, Quilted Ornament, pot holder, or pin cushion exchange.  We have different challenges for guild members to participate if they choose to do so.  We have done block exchanges, and row by row quilts. We have our monthly programs and speakers that give the members a chance to learn a new technique or pattern.  We have had a speaker come on a day, set aside for them, to show our guild members her quilting expertise.

This year, on April 27, 2019, we are holding our 6th Quilters' Extravaganza Day, a day for and about quilters.

We always welcome new members, whether beginning or advanced in quilting. Everyone learns from one another.  The only difference between a beginning quilter and an advanced quilter is the advanced quilter has made many more mistakes.  We were all beginners once too.  Any questions, please feel free to ask any guild member wearing a pink flower at the extravaganza.  We would love to have you join us.
